Intro

I'm the mother of a high functioning autistic boy.  His name is Ali.  He didn't used to be high functioning.  It was a challenge to get a diagnosis, because at the time he lacked the "big symptoms" of autism: He made eye contact and showed emotion.  However, he did not speak nor understood language.  He knew some terminology: Cheerios.  Juice.  Water.  No.  And he would echo what was said to him, but didn't understand a word of it.  This, along with numerous other sensory and behavioral issues put him on the low-functioning side of the spectrum.

After about a year of being at the mercy of speech therapists and habilitators, I decided to step in and get involved.  It's been about 4 years or so... and he has come a long way.

I've been told by friends numerous times to start a blog and share all the things that I've done with Ali.  Frankly, I had no time to even entertain the idea.  However, I do believe that since this disorder is fairly new with a broad spectrum, my tips and inputs may help someone.

I look forward to sharing all our experiences with you.  Good and sometimes not so good.  And also look forward to your feedback and suggestions.
